BeyChella!
Beychella... thanks to DJ Khaled, we’re all calling Beyoncé’s headlining Coachella performance: Beychella. The 36-year old Houston-native went all out for her Coachella performance. If you didn’t catch her in Cali, you can watch her performance here..(https://youtu.be/mPGk2Ky2RKA). From the Black iconography displayed, to her forever-respected discography and finally seeing her beginnings replayed for us, (via a Destiny’s Child performance) we collectively lost our minds. Perhaps our favorite part of the spectacle was the live band breaking out into Swag Surf with Beyoncé and her dancers going into a probate-inspired dance number. Her yellow embroidered hoodie sported her own initials in a collegiate typeface and I swear the step show made me feel like we were watching the voice behind Lemonade cross!
Keeping Lemonade in mind, the award-winning album is charting at #1 on iTunes Global charts. Some 700 days past it’s birth and this is due in part to the amazing live performance we got this past weekend.

Seeing parts of Black collegiate experiences come alive on stage was amazing. With heated stories of inadequate facilities, embezzling and lack of housing coming from students at HBCUs, it is refreshing to see the culture in another light. Beyoncé helped highlight the true arbiters of popular culture through her performance: Black youth! According to MSN, Bey is putting her money where her mouth is by donating $100K to four historically-black colleges. The Homecoming Scholars Award Program will start in the 2018-2019 school year on Wilberforce University, Tuskegee University, Bethune-Cookman University and Xavier University of Louisiana campuses. One student from each school will be awarded $25k, each. We love Beychella!
Stay Fresh!
